Tapping Into The Law of Attraction

I’ve been studying Inner Programming (also known as the Law of Attraction or The Secret - recently discussed on Oprah) for over 20 years. I became interested in Inner Programming from reading anecdotal accounts of people’s successes, but I wasn’t convinced there was something to it until I achieved a result that was very improbable. Here’s a brief account of how it worked for me.

I had been looking for a book that I had read several years earlier, but I couldn’t remember the author’s name or the title (this is before the Internet and search engines). All I could remember clearly was a scene and a picture in the story, so I did an Inner Programming procedure based on that scene.

A few days later I felt an attraction to go to a used bookstore in my area. However, when I searched for the book in the section I expected it to be in, it wasn’t there. I tried to keep positive and looked around a bit. A few minutes later I overheard someone say there were boxes of unsorted books out back and I made my way over there. What I saw was overwhelming - at least 30-50 boxes stacked

I gamely tried looking through the boxes systematically, but I became frustrated with the time needed to go through each box. So I decided to try and tap into the Law of Attraction again. I started feeling attracted to a box that was sitting to the side on the ground. I pulled a few books out of the box and there was the book I had programmed

This success convinced me that Inner Programming worked, but I found my results were not always consistent. I kept looking for methods that would give me more consistency. A few years ago I came across Robert Scheinfeld’s book “The 11th Element” and I’ve been very pleased with the results I’ve had with his method. Bob suggests you write a letter to your subconscious mind and state both the emotional foundation of your goal and the goal and sub-goals you need help with.

Here’s an example of how I used Bob’s method to find my current housing while I was still 2000 miles (3200 km) away. I was in Winnipeg, Canada when I found out that I had a job offer in North Carolina. The recruiter said they would help me find housing when I arrived, but I wondered how long this would take and what kind of housing it would be - would I like the place? I decided to program my housing goals so that the Law of Attraction could help me quickly find housing that would meet my needs. So using Bob’s samples I drafted a letter to my subconscious mind and included the following requests:

- find housing near my school easily and without stress
- rent about 400 USD/month
- good neighbours
- safe neighbourhood and roads
- close to exercise facilities
- have the feeling of rest to the body and soul
- be furnished and have air conditioning
- have good systems (electrical, plumbing, etc.)
- near excellent, affordable health care
- have easy access to the Internet
- have enough space for my projects

When I arrived in North Carolina I received an email from the recruiter’s representative for my new county. He offered me the house he had been renting since he was moving out. Talk about “easily and without stress” The house met all of my criteria exactly - especially the feeling of rest to the body and soul - there are beautiful trees on the property and in the neighbourhood. The only criteria that didn’t match what I had programmed were:

- actual rent - 425 USD + 75 USD for furniture
- the house is a bit smaller than I’d like

When I experience synchronicities like these (dreams, hunches, coincidences and people who come out of the blue to help me), I always feel that I’m on a wonderful adventure. I’m getting to the point where I want to pursue a goal, not only to achieve the success and adventure I want, but because I love the synchronicities I experience along the way. Now I never plan for a new overseas placement without programming what I require regarding my new employment, housing and host country.

If you’d like to try Inner Programming, I’ve listed some resources below on several techniques. Here are the two techniques I used in the examples above.

I programmed the book I was looking for by doing a relaxation technique. I then imagined myself in a place of relaxation and that I had the book in my hand. Finally I imagined it floating up into the sky and disappearing into the Universe.

Before programming my North Carolina housing I made an image of my subconscious mind as a person and gave it a name. I then wrote a letter to it, including a stipulation at the end that the goal would be achieved in a manner that would be for the highest good of all. When I had finished my editing I stored it in a place specifically set aside for these kind of letters - since I travel a lot I use a binder.

From my experiences with using Inner Programming to achieve my goals, I’ve found that the following are essential for getting consistent results:

1. State your goals and needs clearly, as well as stating what Barbara Sher calls your ‘touchstones” - the emotional reason you want the goal;
2. Develop an action plan (see Barbara Sher’s online book “Wishcraft” on the Mighty Links);
3. Stay as positive as you can when things get crazy or don’t go as expected;
4. Clear your inner resistance to accomplishing your goal (see last week’s EFT entry);
5. Take consistent action towards achieving your goal (follow your action plan);
6. Stay alert, be flexible, and take action on the synchronicities (meaningful coincidences) that come your way.
